Protecting California's Animals

AUGUST 9, 2005 LETTER TO GOVERNOR SCHWARZENEGGER'S OFFICE

August 9, 2005

Ms. Robyn Boyer
Office of the Governor
Governor's Cabinet
State of California
Sacramento, CA 95814

Dear Ms. Boyer,

We spoke on the phone several weeks ago, and you asked that I resend my proposal about establishing a California Animal Commission. I trust you received the information.

As we discussed, the commission would be advisory in nature, and the commissioners would assist cities and counties with moving their public animal shelters in the direction of "no kill." The commissioners would be looking to reduce the cost to taxpayers and reduce—if not end—the deaths of shelter animals.

There is strong support for this idea. "Californians for a No Kill Commission" recently started a website at www.animalcommission.org, as well as an online petition. They have started gathering signatures and fielding phone calls from the many Californians who insist that the Governor appoint a Commission.

In addition, the Greater Valley Glen Council supports this proposal and will be forwarding a letter to this effect. It is hoped that other councils, as they are informed of the idea, will offer their support.

Please let me know where this proposal stands and feel free to contact me with any further questions. I have enclosed some of the signatures that volunteers have gathered.

Sincerely Yours,

Charlotte Laws
